Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – A 44-year-old man was transported to hospital after Saskatoon Police deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW) yesterday morning.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., May 23, 2017, a man was observed stealing from a grocery store in the 2400 block of 22nd Street West. A store employee approached the suspect as he attempted to leave. The suspect then physically assaulted the employee and fled out the back.
The suspect was observed by Police in the 300 block of Avenue W North. As Officers approached the man, he produced a pair of scissors and a needle, and placed them on his neck. He refused to obey commands from Police and a CEW was deployed before he could cause any harm to himself. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to hospital.
The 44-year-old has been charged with Attempted Theft, Assault, Possession of Dangerous Weapon and Utter Threats. (Court Info # 991013119)
