P.E.I. Unified Police Force seizes significant amount of drugs

Queens District, Prince Edward Island – Queens District RCMP, with the assistance of RCMP Federal Investigations Unit (FIU), and Charlottetown Police Services, recovered approximately 20,000 pills; one kilogram of hash; and approximately a half kilogram of marihuana on Sunday evening, May 21.

RCMP Queens say police acted on an anonymous tip regarding a suspicious package located in Queens County. Samples of the pills have been sent for analysis and we will update the public once the pills have been identified. These drugs were destined for Island communities and we encourage the public who may have information regarding illicit drugs to contact their local law enforcement agency or to contact PEI Crime Stoppers.

RCMP added that given recent incidents across Canada involving opioid pills, police have taken safety precautions with respect to handling the suspicious drugs. Police would like to remind the public that illicit drugs may contain harmful or deadly substances.

PEI Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at peicrimestoppers.com or by texting TIP162 to 274637 (CRIMES).
