Busy Weekend for Police in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – Prince Albert Police Service had a very busy weekend responding to 393 calls for service and 71 people being arrested over the weekend. The top calls for service were for intoxicated persons (54) and disturbances (52).

File # 2017-17067 Break and Enter

A Prince Albert man has been charged with break and enters after being arrested early Sunday morning.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., May 28, 2017 Prince Albert Police Service responded to an alarm call to a business in the 200 Block of 15 Street West. Patrol members attended immediately and observed a broken window to the business. A witness advised patrol of a description of the suspect. Patrol members located a 28 year old male, matching the description of the suspect and he has been charged with Break and Enter (Information # 991013538).

The suspect will make his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.

File # 2017-17128 Stolen Vehicle / Taser Deployment

Five people are in custody after officers caught them fleeing from a stolen vehicle.

Prince Albert Police Service responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The owner advised police the vehicle had been stolen sometime over night.

At approximately 3 p.m., May 28, 2017, patrol officers observed the stolen vehicle at 15 street and 4th Avenue West travelling southbound. Patrol officers activated their emergency lights and siren to attempt to pull over the stolen vehicle. The suspect driver refused to stop and evade police. Due to high speeds police quickly terminated the pursuit due to concerns for public safety and shut off emergency lights and siren as the suspect vehicle continued to evade police.

Police continued to look for the stolen vehicle and a short time later observed the vehicle in the 600 Block of 28 Street West. The suspected vehicle had a flat rear tire. Five occupants from the vehicle fled on foot from police.

Three females and one male were located and taken into custody without incident.

A 16-year-old male youth was found hiding behind a fence and refused to obey verbal commands by police and due to officer safety concerns a Conductive Energy Device (CED) was deployed which engaged the youth. The youth was then taken into custody.

Police searched the stolen vehicle and located an axe on the floor board of the front passenger seat.

A 20-year-old Prince Albert man has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Police, Resisting Arrest, Assaulting a Police Officer, Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public (Info # 991013572).

A 16-year-old male youth from Prince Albert is charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public and Resisting Arrest (Info # 991013569).

A 15-year-old female youth from Prince Albert is charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public and Obstructing a Police Officer (Info # 991013570).

A 16-year-old female youth from Sturgeon Lake is charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public (Info # 991013566).

A 14-year-old female youth from Prince Albert is charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public (Info # 991013568).

All five accused will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.

File # 2017 – 17209 – Weapons Call

On Monday, May 29, 2017 shortly after 2 a.m. Prince Albert Police Service patrol initiated a Traffic Safety Act stop on the 300 Block of River Street East.

The officer approached the vehicle and requested drivers license and registration. There were four occupants in the vehicle. While talking to the occupants he recognized the passenger side occupant as having outstanding warrants and arrested him. While arresting the male the officer observed a green bat, dumbbell bar wrapped with tape, and a mask with goggles on the floor. Backup officer assistance was called in and a vehicle search was conducted.

Another male passenger located in the rear of the vehicle was found with a concealed sawed off shotgun on his person, a backpack on his lap and a concealed drawstring backpack containing .22 shotgun shells. In the larger backpack was a box of .22 shotgun shells and another mask. The passenger also had shotgun shells in his pocket and a leg strap containing shotgun shells.

A 24-year-old male from Prince Albert is charged with two charges of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to the public peace and a breach of probation order (Information # 991013588).

A 33-year-old male from Prince Albert is charged with seven firearms related offenses (Information # 991013592).
