Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision on Highway 36 near Brooks, Alberta

Brooks, Alberta – At approximately 4:00 am on Friday, June 2nd, 2017, Brooks RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision involving a semi towing a cattle trailer on highway 36, approximately 5 kilometres north of highway 1, west of Brooks.

Members arrived to find that the semi, which had been travelling southbound on Highway 36, had left the road and had struck part of an irrigation ditch.

The driver of the semi, a 58 year old male resident of Carrot River, Saskatchewan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Traffic around the collision scene was diverted for several hours while the investigation was being conducted.

Several head of cattle that had been in the trailer at the time of the collision had to be euthanized at the scene.

The name of the deceased is not being released and the investigation is ongoing, however, alcohol and road conditions do not appear to be factors in the collision.
