Fatal Collision near Squanga Lake on the Alaska Highway south of Jake’s Corner

Teslin, Yukon – On Sunday, June 4th shortly before 5:00 pm, Teslin RCMP along with Yukon Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on the Alaska Highway south of Jake’s Corner, near Squanga Lake.

A vehicle travelling westbound was struck by a piece of debris from a tractor trailer traveling eastbound. The driver of the vehicle, a 58-year-old man from Carcross, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. A 65-year-old man from Whitehorse was a passenger in the vehicle, and was transported to Whitehorse General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene, as did the Yukon Coroner’s Service. The driver of the tractor trailer did not stop, and may not know the incident occurred. Police are asking anyone with information related to this incident to call Teslin RCMP at 867-390-5555.

This matter is still under investigation.
