Ottawa, Ontario – The RCMP National Division NCR Traffic Unit is looking for the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle that was traveling at an extremely high speed on promenade de la Gatineau between boulevard des Allumettières and boulevard Alexandre-Taché in Gatineau, on Tuesday, June 6, at approximately 20:00 hrs.
The vehicle was travelling at a speed in excess of 147 km per hour in a posted 60 km per hour zone. After a brief attempt to intercept the vehicle, the RCMP terminated the intervention to minimize the risk to the public’s safety in this area. Gatineau Park is frequented by many recreational cyclists and runners, and the RCMP takes this matter very seriously.
The RCMP Traffic Services members are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect vehicle and identifying the driver as part of an ongoing investigation. The vehicle appears to be an older model dark coloured Toyota Matrix – 4 door hatchback with after-market modifications. It also appeared to be licensed in Ontario (see photos for details).
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP National Division Operational Communication Center at 613-952-4200.
