Revelstoke, BC – The Revelstoke RCMP and Ministry of Transportation attended to Camp Creek along Hwy 1 late Thursday night, after a water and debris field completely covered the highway.
Shortly after 11:00 PM on Thursday June 8, 2017, the Camp Creek Bridge, located 25 km West of Revelstoke, BC on the Trans-Canada Highway was overpowered by the creek causing a build-up of debris to gather and spill-over and damage the Trans-Canada Highway. The Revelstoke RCMP searched the debris field and confirm that no vehicles or person were involved.
The Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed in both directions with EMCON Services and the Ministry of Transportation on-scene, working vigorously to restore the highway.
It is estimated the Trans-Canada Highway will be closed in both directions until late this weekend. Westbound motorist are being diverted to an alternative route; Highway 23 South of Revelstoke to the Shelter Bay Ferry in order to access Highway 6 which will lead travelers toward the North Okanagan area. Eastbound travelers are being diverted at Sicamous.
With a weekend of heavy volume of Summer traffic anticipated, we ask all traveller to be patient and anticipate delays through the alternate routes. Prepare for the added time to your trip and enjoy some of our towns that you may not have visited this weekend. All are ready to extend some hospitality to weary travellers stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk
