Two vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Clinton, B.C. results in a double fatality

Clinton, BC – The Clinton RCMP attended to a two vehicle collision involving a commercial transport vehicle and personal vehicle on Highway 97 Thursday evening which resulted in the death of both drivers.

On Thursday June 8, 2017, at 6:49 pm, the Clinton RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 97, approximately twenty kilometres North of Clinton. The collision involved a Southbound 2011 Volkswagen driven by a 20 year old Vernon man and a Northbound 1990 Freightliner truck hauling a b-train driven by a 38 year old Prince George man.

double-fatality-collisionScene examination and witness accounts confirm that the VW crossed the center line at which time the driver of the truck attempted to avoid a collision by driving onto the shoulder. The VW struck the front corner of the Freightliner truck at which time the truck rolled over into the northbound ditch and caught fire. The driver of the truck did not exit the vehicle and perished. The impact caused the VW to roll over into the Southbound ditch with the driver suffering fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The collision caused the closure of Hwy 97 until Friday afternoon. The Clinton RCMP continues to assist the BC Coroners Services with their investigation into the men’s death.
