Strathcona County RCMP arrest driver involved in hit and run

Strathcona County, Alberta – On Wednesday June 7, 2017 at approximately 7:31 p.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a hit and run at the intersection of Broadmoor Blvd and Streambank Ave in Sherwood Park. While stopped at a red light the victim was hit from behind by another vehicle who then fled the scene crossing several lane of traffic. Several other witnesses reported the suspect vehicle was last seen travelling southbound on Broadmoor Blvd in the northbound lanes.

Strathcona County RCMP received additional reports that a male abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle was determined to be stolen out of Edmonton on Tuesday June 6, 2017.

Officers and the Strathcona County RCMP Police Dog Service began searching the area and shortly after were advised of a male matching the description of the suspect inside the StoreSmart compound located on Broadway Blvd.

Officers located the male hiding behind a truck in the compound and was subsequently arrested without incident.

The driver and passenger in the victim vehicle did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision.

Orlando Mercedes MCGILVERY, age 20 of Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with:

  • One count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
  • One count of fail to remain.
  • One count of obstruction.
  • Two counts of possession of stolen property.

MCGILVERY has been released on a recognizance and his next appearance is scheduled for June 14, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in Sherwood Park Provincial Court.
