Male Accidentally Discharges Sawed-Off Shotgun into Lower Body While Exiting Winnipeg Cab

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On April 6, 2017, at approximately 8 a.m., two adult males entered a taxicab in the 2100 block of Gallagher Avenue and asked to be driven to a nearby address.

While travelling, one male removed a sawed-off shotgun from a bag and provided it to the other male who concealed the firearm.

Upon arrival at the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue, the male accidentally discharged the firearm into his lower body as he attempted to exit the cab. The first male fled with the firearm as the cab drove the injured male to a nearby hospital.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation and placed the injured male under arrest.

Sean Roy Martin, a 24-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with a number of firearm-related offences and fail to comply probation order.

On June 14, 2017, the outstanding male was located in the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue and was placed under arrest.

Mark Douglas Rodgers, a 25-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with a number of firearm-related offences.

Both have been detained in custody.
