Reported gun sighting leads to arrest of wanted man

Penticton, BC – At 1253 pm on June 22nd, 2017, Penticton RCMP received a report of a male with a gun near Queens Park Elementary School and he was last seen walking away from the school toward downtown Penticton.

All Police resources responded and ensured the safety of the students and staff at the school. Patrols were made for the male matching the description and approximately 20 minutes later, the male was located at Main Street and Eckhardt Avenue. Upon being detained by Police he fled on his bicycle and ran into the library. Police gave chase and blocked off all exits. The male was arrested inside the hallway near the west exit of the library.

No firearm was found, but there were items and weapons in his possession that could have been mistaken for a gun by the witnesses. The 32 year old man was wanted on warrants of arrest out of Princeton and new charges are also being recommended to Crown Counsel. He is being held in custody to appear in Penticton Provincial Court on Friday morning.
