Saskatoon Police Remove 21 People From Home During Overnight Stand-off

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – At approximately 11:20 p.m., June 22, 2017, Police attended a residence in the 500 block of Avenue M North. Upon arrival, Officers witnessed someone in the home holding a hand gun. When they attempted to intervene, the occupants barricaded themselves inside the home.

The scene was secured with safety perimeters put in place and a search warrant was obtained. SPS’s Armored Rescue Vehicle was brought in for Police and public safety. Crisis Negotiators were successful in making contact with a person inside the home resulting in 14 adults and a three-year-old child exiting.

After unsuccessful attempts were made to draw the remaining people out, officers entered the home. Six more people were located and taken into custody without incident.

In total, 21 people were removed from the home. Seven of them were arrested on new charges or outstanding warrants.

A 28-year-old male has been charged with Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public and Breach of Conditions.

A 22-year-old female and 32-year-old male have been charged with Breach of Conditions.

An 18-year-old male has been charged with Breach of Probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The stand-off ended shortly after 5:00 a.m. All of the people from inside the home were assessed by medics before Police transportation. The hand gun initially seen by Officers was located and found to be an air-soft pellet gun.

Saskatoon Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit, Tactical Support Unit and Crisis Negotiators Team are credited with the successful resolution of this stand-off. No one was injured during the incident.
