Two Charged After Police Officer Assaulted During Lloydminster Bar Fight

Lloydminster, Alberta – On June 23, 2017, just after one a.m., Lloydminster RCMP received a 911 call of several people fighting at a bar in the 5200 block of 44 Street.

Police attended and stopped the fight quickly. During this process two individuals then began fighting with a police officer in the parking lot. Both individuals were arrested and taken into custody. The officer sustained non life threatening injuries.

Jeffory Cowan, 41 years old from Lloydminster and Riley Cowan, 37 years old from Lloydminster, have been charged with Assault on a police officer, Cause a disturbance, and Resisting arrest. Riley has also been charged with an additional count of Assault on a police officer in relation to an incident that occurred while in police custody.

Both individuals appeared before a Justice of the Peace and were released to appear in Alberta provincial court on July 11, 2017.
