Surrey, BC – Surrey RCMP is appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying a cheque fraud suspect.
On April 19th, 2017, the victim noticed an unusually large cheque had been cashed against his account for over $7,000. The victim contacted his bank and the Surrey RCMP who learned that the victim had left his cheque book unattended at a local retail store for a few minutes before going back to collect it.
Since the initial complaint, Surrey RCMP General Duty investigators have obtained surveillance photos of a suspect cashing a cheque against the victim’s account.
“Criminals will take advantage of any opportunity they see,” says Corporal Scotty Schumann. “Identity theft and fraud accounts for tremendous financial losses to consumers and businesses. Make sure your bank and personal documents are always secure and are never left unattended.”
