Weekend Policing in Prince Albert Included Weapons Charges, Vehicle Theft and Impaired Driving

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – On Friday, June 30, 2017 at approximately 2 p.m. officers attended a residence on 1100 17 Street West to arrest a male on outstanding warrants. The male was located in his bedroom and when officers went to effect arrest they located homemade weapons in open sight. The weapons were seized.

The 24-year-old male was charged with being at large of his recognizance and breaching a condition to not possess prohibited or restricted weapons.

The suspect will make his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court today (Information # 991017455).

On Sunday, July 2, 2017 officers were dispatched to a Report Impaired Driver (RID) complaint on 6 Avenue East and Branion Drive. Around 7:45 p.m. a vehicle was located traveling eastbound on Branion at high speeds and matching the vehicle description of the RID complaint. The vehicle was followed for a distance and observed to go through a stop sign and driving erratically. Officers managed to pull over the vehicle shortly before Muzzy Drive. Empty alcohol containers were observed in the vehicle. The driver had appearances of intoxication and an odour of alcohol coming from the driver was observed.

The suspect refused several demands by officers to take the two required breathalyzer tests.

The 44-year-old male from Prince Albert is charged with Impaired Driving and Refusal to administer a breathalyzer. The suspect has since been released to answer to charges in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 17, 2017.

On Monday, July 3 at 1:45 a.m. officers responded to a residence on a call of a robbery-in-progress.

The victim had known the suspect which stole his vehicle at gunpoint.

The vehicle was located by officers on 18 Street West & 4th Avenue West. Patrol members activated emergency lights and sirens but the vehicle refused to yield. The vehicle was followed out of Prince Albert on Highway 3 towards Birch Hills. Officers placed stop sticks on the highway leading back to the Prince Albert in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle returning back into the city drove over the stop sticks but continued driving. The vehicle continued onto 6th Avenue East and down the viaduct. A patrol car managed to cut off the vehicle. Damage was sustained to both vehicles. Luckily no one was injured as a result of this collision. The suspect then fled the vehicle on foot. Police Service Dog (PSD) Daxa and handler Constable Bighetty immediately began to track the suspect and successfully located the suspect in the 500 Block of 19 Street East hiding in a yard. PSD Daxa successfully engaged the suspect who posed a threat to officers resulting in his arrest.

The 20-year old male from Grandmother’s Bay, Saskatchewan is charged with using a firearm in the commission of an indictable offense, commit theft of a motor vehicle, pointing a firearm, operate a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, attempting to evade by refusing to stop, and breach of probation.

The suspect will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court today (Information #991017610).
