Regina Police Member Charged With Assault

Regina, Saskatchewan – A 44 year-old male, who is also a 15-year member (corporal) with the Regina Police Service, has been charged with Common Assault as the result of an investigation by the Public Complaints Commission into an incident from December, 2016. This notice is being issued in accordance with past practice of the Regina Police Service, consistent with the Service’s commitment to public accountability. The police officer was on duty at the time of the incident.

On December 15, 2016, the Regina Police Service received notice from the Saskatchewan Public Complaints Commission, Ministry of Justice, that an investigation was underway into an alleged excessive use of force by a member of the Service against a 25 year-old male. It’s alleged the incident occurred in the 1100 block of Lindsay Street on the night of December 7, 2016, during an investigation into suspicious activity (possible theft from auto). It’s alleged the officer assaulted the male in the course of an arrest. As a result of the investigation into the complaint, 44 year-old Colin MAGEE, is charged with Common Assault [266(a) CC]. He will make his first court appearance on the charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on August 17, 2017.

There is also a corresponding internal process, as per The Police Act, 1990. Corporal Magee has been reassigned to administrative duties, pending the outcome of the criminal process.
