Charges Laid in Recent Prince Albert Abduction

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – After an extensive investigation Prince Albert Police Service are charging 19 year old Jared Charles with numerous offences including abduction, kidnapping, abandoning a child, criminal negligence, forcible confinement, sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

On July 4, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. Prince Albert Police Service received a call from family reporting their 8 year old daughter missing, which resulted in an Amber Alert.

On July 4, 2017 at approximately 8:40 p.m. the 8 year old was safely located and the Amber Alert was cancelled.

Through extensive investigation including Prince Albert Police Patrol members, K9, Criminal Investigation, Identification Unit, in partnership with the RCMP, Saskatchewan Environment Officers and Probation Services, Charles was determined to be responsible for the abduction of the 8 year old.

With the help of the media and the public, Charles was located in Prince Albert. At 11:15 p.m., July 4, 2017 Jared Charles was arrested without incident at a business in the 2900 Block of 2nd Avenue West.

Charles will make his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday morning.
