RCMP Seeks the Public’s Assistance in 50th Avenue Wetaskiwin Driving Incident

Wetaskiwin, Alberta – On July 15th, 2017, at approximately 4:05 p.m. a stolen white Chevrolet GMT-400 pickup truck was travelling East on 50 Avenue approaching the traffic circle on 47 Street, while the Registered Owner was inside the bed of the truck attempting to stop it.

The stolen truck drove around a red Ford Windsor van causing minor damage to it and then drove into a Blue Dodge Journey pushing it back into the traffic circle. The Registered Owner of the pickup truck was thrown from the bed of the truck and was injured. The stolen truck then sped through the traffic circle into the parking lot of the Manluk Center coming to a stop on the East side of the parking lot. Numerous citizens including a large number of children were in the area at the time. The suspect fled on foot, however was located and arrested by the RCMP within minutes.

The person thrown from the truck and the driver of the Dodge Journey were taken to the hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues and charges are pending against a 17 year old male from Maskwacis, Alberta.
