Male Breaks into Garage and Steals Box Containing Deceased Person’s Ashes

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in gathering information on the following crime:

At approximately 9:48 p.m. on Saturday July 8, 2017 Strathcona County RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence located near Range Road 225 and Township Road 534.

The complainant attended the nearby residence after hearing an alarm going off and observed a male leaving in what appeared to be a dark grey Chevrolet Equinox.

The residence belonged to the complainant’s recently deceased mother.

The male entered the unlocked garage door and kicked in the man door leading to the residence. Once inside the male took several pieces of jewelry and a wooden box containing the ashes of the complainant’s deceased mother.

The box is described as a cherry wood box (12 x 6 inches) with the name Mary Annie Myers and Riverview Funeral Home on a white sticker on the bottom. The box was inside a green velvet bag with draw string along with an envelope containing a cremation certificate and a burial permit.

The male is described as early 20’s, black hair with a brush cut and round face.
