Vernon, BC – A group of young men were found showing no regard for the current wildfire situation on Thursday evening, after the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP responded to a complaint on the North Okanagan Rail Trail. Fines were levied by the RCMP.
On Thursday July 27, 2017 at approximately 10:00 pm, the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP attended the Rail Trail off of Westkal Road in response to a complaint of a small fire burning.
On arrival, police found 3 males seated around a small campfire enjoying some cold drinks, oblivious to the fire danger in the area.
Winds were gusty in the area and small embers were gently flying from the campfire.
After being instructed to pour their drinks on the fire, the two 19 yr old men and one 16 yr old boy were each issued a fine of $1150 under the Wild Fire Act.
The Coldstream Fire Dept was then brought in to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.
