Haines Junction, Yukon – On July 30th, 2017 at approximately 8:00 a.m., Haines Junction RCMP and Destruction Bay Emergency Medical Services were called to a report of a male in medical distress near the Slims River Bridge.
When police arrived, Destruction Bay Emergency Medical Services were already at the scene, along with a nurse and several civilians who had performed CPR prior to the arrival of emergency responders.
The 57-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation has determined that the man had left Cottonwood Park for a run at 7:30 a.m., and went into medical distress near the Slims River Bridge.
The Destruction Bay Coroner attended the scene. As the death is not considered suspicious, the Yukon Coroner’s Service is now leading this investigation.
An autopsy is being scheduled to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
