Jump into Moyie Falls turns tragic

Cranbrook, BC – The Cranbrook RCMP and Kimberley Search and Rescue responded to a report of a drowning at Moyie Falls last Friday, following a report that a woman had not resurfaced after a jump into the Moyie River.

On Friday July 28th, 2017, the Cranbrook RCMP were dispatched to the Moyie Falls where a 22 year old female was presumed to have drowned after cliff jumping into Moyie Falls that evening. Bystanders and friends of the female attempted a rescue but were unable to assist her when she exhibited difficulties. Cranbrook and Kimberly Search and Rescue attended in efforts to locate the woman without success.

The RCMP E Division Underwater Recovery Team attended the scene over the weekend and a recovery of the deceased was made. The 22 yr old drowning victim who is a Jamaican National student was living in Cranbrook.

The Cranbrook RCMP continues to assist the BC Coroners Service with their investigation into the woman’s death.
