Stettler RCMP Offer Advice to Red Deer River “Floaters”

Stettler, Alberta – Between July 31st and August 5th, Stettler RCMP have responded to a number of reports of overdue ‘floaters’ on Red Deer River between Content Bridge and MacKenzie Crossing. In all instances, everyone was located safe and sound.

Stettler RCMP would like to remind those wishing to float on Red Deer River of the following:

• Research the speed of the river – this time of year, the RD River is typically quite slow causing floaters to greatly underestimate the amount of time it’ll take to reach their destination.
• Cell phones – bring phones with full batteries and keep them in a sealed container in an event emergency services need to be contacted.
• Be mindful of the weather forecast well after your expected time of arrival and bring appropriate clothing if possible/applicable
• Let people know where your going and your destination
