Stratford, Prince Edward Island – On August 9th, 2017, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Queens District RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Bunbury Road and Highway #1 in Stratford, P.E.I. The Crossroads Fire Department and Island EMS also responded to the collision.
One 41 year-old male driver from Charlottetown was injured and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The other vehicle driver, a 52 year-old man from Mermaid, was arrested and tested by a Drug Recognition Expert. As a result of the testing, the man will be facing charges of Impaired Driving by a Drug Causing Bodily Harm and he was also charged with a number of Provincial Summary Offences. He will be appearing in court on the Criminal Code charges in September.
Unfortunately, impaired driving by alcohol and/or drugs continues to be a problem on P.E.I. roads, endangering lives needlessly. If you suspect that someone is driving impaired, please call 9-1-1 as part of the solution towards making our roads safer for everyone.
