Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – At 2:55 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, patrol officers were dispatched to 1000 Block River Street on a disturbance call.
When officers arrived, a vehicle from the residence attempted to leave at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the vehicle and activated their lights and sirens on 800 Block 18 Street West to pull over the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield and traveled at greater speeds to attempt to evade officers.
The vehicle was followed for a distance and then it reached speeds exceeding 100 kilometres per hour and the pursuit was discontinued due to officer and public safety.
The vehicle was seen turning northbound onto 2nd Avenue West and officers set up a spike belt shortly before the Diefenbaker bridge. The spike belt made successful contact with the vehicle – deflating the front two tires. The vehicle continued to travel over the bridge at more than 100 kilometres per hour.
Just north of the Shellbrook overpass the vehicle started to slow down where it eventually drove onto the meridian on the grass and came to a stop.
Commands were given to the vehicle for the occupants to turn off the engine and exit the vehicle which they did not comply. The vehicle attempted to drive again going 30-40 kilometres per hour in the southbound lane. The vehicle turned west onto the landfill road and eventually was angled towards brush in the ditch, driving into the ditch and coming to a stop.
Officers exited their vehicle and approached the vehicle with firearms drawn. They gave verbal commands which they received no response. The windows were tinted on the vehicle and the occupants couldn’t be seen. The officers broke both the driver and passenger side windows and the female driver and male passenger finally complied with exiting the vehicle and were arrested.
The vehicle was searched by officers and shotgun shells and a machete were found.
