Crime Spree Comes to End With Medicine Hat Police Arrest

Medicine Hat, Alberta – On August 19 at approximately 5:30 p.m. the Medicine Hat Police Service located a black BMW convertible that was reported stolen in Calgary.

The vehicle was located parked near the 600 block of 6th St SW. Police had been searching for the vehicle earlier in the day, as MHPS had received a report that the vehicle had failed to pull over for Brooks RCMP following an assault, then another report that the vehicle had been involved in a theft of gas in Medicine Hat.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were located and arrested.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed stolen identifications, stolen electronics, methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, and bear spray. It is believed that most of the stolen items are from the Calgary area. The investigation is ongoing.

Benjamin Schnieder, 31 years old of Medicine Hat is currently in custody and due in court August 22.

David Paul Dyck, 47 years old of Calgary has been released on bail and due back in court September 5th.

Both men are charged with numerous offences that include:

  • Possess stolen property over $5000
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Possess stolen property under $5000
  • Possession of a controlled substance
