Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – One male is in custody and facing numerous serious charges after committing an armed robbery and then evading police.
On August 21, 2017 at approximately 4 p.m. police received a call to attend a residence on 1000 Block River street West for an armed robbery that had just occurred.
Police attended and spoke with two female victims who advised an unknown male had asked them for a ride to an address in the city. While giving the unknown male a ride he produced a knife and demanded their vehicle and wallets. The driver stopped the vehicle immediately and both females exited the vehicle with their wallets and ran to a residence to call police. The male suspect left in the stolen vehicle travelling eastbound. Neither victim was injured.
Then at approximately 6:20 p.m., August 21, 2017 while on routine patrol, officers located the stolen vehicle from earlier in the day on 1400 Block 12 Street West.
Officers observed an unknown male driver and two female passengers in the stolen vehicle. Officers activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver of the stolen auto ignored police emergency equipment and evaded police. Because of high speeds, public and officer safety, police did not pursue the stolen vehicle as it continued to drive away from police at a high rate of speed.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., August 22, 2017 patrol officers located the stolen vehicle for a second time now parked in an alley on the 900 Block of Central Avenue. Officers pulled a patrol car in front of the stolen auto to prevent it from going mobile as the vehicle engine was running and head lights on with an unknown male in the driver seat. Officers heard the stolen vehicle rev its engine. The vehicle then rammed the front of the patrol car. The male suspect fled from the stolen vehicle and entered a nearby building through an open window.
Patrol officers as well as the K9 Unit with Police Service Dog (PSD) Daxa searched the building and located and arrested a 24-year-old male without further incident. No officers were injured.
The 24-year-old Prince Albert man is now charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Armed Robbery, Operating a Motor Vehicle in a Dangerous Manner, Evading Police, Assaulting a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Break and Enter and Breach of Court Order (Info # 991023073).
The suspect will make his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.
