Gleichen RCMP investigate carjacking

Gleichen, Alberta – The RCMP are seeking public assistance for information in relation to an armed robbery, resulting in a car being taken. This incident occurred on August 21 at the Gleichen rest stop on Highway 1.

At 3:37 p.m the RCMP received a 911 call reporting that a male had his Honda Pilot stolen at gunpoint. The victim was outside his vehicle at the rest stop when a vehicle with three occupants stopped. One of the occupants demanded the victim’s wallet, watch and vehicle keys, while holding a gun.

The victim was not injured during this incident.

A male suspect went into the victim’s vehicle and drove it away while the remaining two occupants in the suspect vehicle departed as well. The vehicles were last seen driving west on Highway 1.

The suspects are described as:

Suspect #1:

  • Caucasian male, late 30’s years old
  • Thin build, approximately 5’6” tall
  • Blond/light brown hair / appeared unshaven (maybe 2 weeks’ beard growth)
  • Wearing a ball cap and a long sleeve summer jacket

Suspect #2:

  • Female
  • Approximately 18 – 19 years old
  • Slim face, not tall. No other descriptors available

Suspect #3:

  • Male
  • Wearing a light coloured hoodie – no further descriptors



Suspect Vehicle:

  • Small car / 2 door, dark grey

The victim’s vehicle was located south of Strathmore.
