UPDATE: Autopsy completed today on baby boy killed in Edmonton fire

Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Police Service continues to investigate the death of a baby boy that died after a residential fire which occurred yesterday, Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy this morning on the 5-month-old and determined the cause of death to be smoke inhalation.

The mother remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There are no suspects in custody. Homicide detectives continue to investigate.

This is Edmonton’s 32nd homicide of 2017.

Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the name of the deceased in this investigation for the following reasons: it does not serve an investigative purpose, there is no risk to public safety and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.
