15-Year-Old Female Youth Stabbed at Winkler, Manitoba Church

Winkler, Manitoba – On August 27, 2017, at approximately 1:00 p.m., members of the Winkler Police Service, along with paramedics from Boundary Trails Health Centre, and the Winkler Fire Department, responded to a report of a stabbing at the Pembina Valley Baptist Church on Manitoba Road in Winkler.

When officers arrived, they located a 15-year-old female suffering from a number of stab wounds. Police quickly located a suspect in the parking lot and at approximately 1:05 p.m., officers arrested a 39-year-old male for the assault.

The victim was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre by ground ambulance and from there to a Winnipeg hospital by STARS Air Ambulance. She is reported to be in stable condition at the time of this writing.

The 39-year-old male of Winkler remains in custody and will be facing charges of aggravated assault and possess weapon for a dangerous purpose.

At this time, police are working at determining a motive for the assault and the incident remains under investigation.
