North Vancouver, BC – North Vancouver RCMP have impounded 6 motorcycles for street racing on Hwy 1 in North Vancouver.
On August 27th, 2017 at around noon, the North Vancouver RCMP received a report from a concerned motorist reporting several motorcyclists driving dangerously and passing other vehicles at high rates of speed.
Shortly thereafter, police located a group of 6 motorcyclists speeding and driving dangerously while maneuvering in between traffic, proceeding eastbound on Hwy 1 near Lonsdale Ave. in North Vancouver.
A road block was created and the drivers were stopped and identified as 6 Lower Mainland residents.
“With the good weather, we sometimes see drivers wanting to speed and race as they’re headed to and from the mountains,” said Cst. Brett Cunningham of the North Vancouver RCMP.
All drivers were charged with Drive Without Due Care and Attention, S. 144(1)(a) of the Motor Vehicle Act. In addition, all the motorcycles were impounded for street racing for a period of 7 days. One of the drivers was prohibited from driving as a result of a previous incident and is now to appear in court for Driving While Prohibited, S. 95 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
“We are continuously conducting traffic enforcement, as well as working with our partners including ICBC, to better educate the public on the risks of dangerous driving,” said Cst. Cunningham. “We hope that everyone is enjoying the summer weather but want to ensure that everyone returns home safely. We don’t want to see another fatal or serious collision that could have been prevented.”
