Airdrie Rural RCMP Charges Male Involved in Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

Rocky View County, Alberta – On Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at approximately 9:30pm, Airdrie Rural RCMP were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on Country Hills Boulevard just East of Calgary city limits.

Airdrie Rural RCMP responded along with Rocky View Fire Services and EMS. Upon arriving on scene, STARS Air Ambulance was also requested to assist with the transportation of an injured female driver to hospital. Preliminary investigation reveals that a male driver in a red SUV travelling westbound at a high rate of speed attempted to pass a semi-tractor and trailer while unsafe to do so. The SUV collided head-on with a smaller car occupied by a female driver travelling in the eastbound direction. The female is currently in hospital.

41 year old Jeffrey William Smith of Calgary is charged with:

  • Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
  • Refusal to Provide a Sample of Breath
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm

Smith was released on a Promise to Appear at the Provincial Court of Alberta in Airdrie on Thursday, October 5, 2017.
