Brooks RCMP on Scene of a Drowning at Lake Newell

Brooks, Alberta – On the 29th of August 2017, at approximately 3:44pm, Brooks RCMP, along with the Brooks Fire Department and Alberta Health Services EMS, were dispatched to Kinbrook Island Provincial Park for a possible drowning at the main beach of Lake Newell.

At the time, a 16 year old male was floating on the lake when he appeared to jump off of his flotation device. The male appeared to be in distress prior to going under water.

South Eastern Alberta Search and Rescue, Medicine Hat Fire Department’s Aquatic Rescue Team, Brooks Fire Department, HALO Air Ambulance, and Alberta Parks were on scene assisting with the incident. The boy’s body has been recovered and the family has been notified.

No further information will be released at this time.
