Winnipeg Police Investigate Bizarre Attempted Child Abduction – UPDATED

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On August 29, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m., Winnipeg Police general patrol responded to a report of an attempt abduction of a child in the 200 block of Booth Dr.

A 65-year-old male advised that he and his 8-year-old grandson were walking down their apartment stair well when the suspect, an unknown adult male, walking the opposite direction, asked them for the time. The victims continued walking and the suspect began to swear at them and then chase them to the basement level. The suspect threatened the adult victim and attempted to the grab the child. The victims were able to run to a parking garage and notify police. They were not physically harmed.

On August 30, 2017 officers located and arrested Cory James BUCHANAN, 23-years-old of Winnipeg. He has been charged with Uttering Threats and Abduction of a Person Under 14 Years of Age.

BACKGROUND

A 65-year-old male advised that he and his 8-year-old grandson were walking down their apartment stair well when the suspect, an unknown adult male, walking the opposite direction, asked them for the time. The victims continued walking and the suspect began to swear at them and then chase them to the basement level. The suspect threatened the adult victim and attempted to the grab the child. The victims were able to run to a parking garage and notify police. They were not physically harmed.

Police conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as: Caucasian male, 25 – 30 years of age, approximately 6’2″ in height, weighing approximately 250 lbs, with short wavy hair, and blue eyes. He was wearing an orange coloured shirt with a black stripe in the middle and tan coloured pants.
