Red Deer Male Captured After Evading Medicine Hat Police in Stolen Truck

Medicine Hat, Alberta – On August 31 at 01:30AM police responded to the Riverside area for a report of an erratic driver of a Ford truck. Police located the Ford truck and attempted a traffic stop. The male driver fled the stop and began evasive maneuvers to avoid police. Officers did not pursue and set up stationary containment points to control the area. The driver tried numerous times to breach the containment and eventually abandoned the vehicle in an alley and fled on foot.

Police initiated a foot chase and the suspect broke into a house while the family was present. The home owner confronted the male and police chased the suspect out into an alley with K9 and other officers in tow. The male was subsequently taken into to custody.

The 36 year old male driver from the Red Deer area now awaits a bail hearing on:

  • Possess stolen property over $5.000.00
  • Possess stolen property under $5000.00
  • Evade Police
  • Dangerous driving
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling
  • Resist arrest
  • 4 breaches of 4 weapons Prohibitions for being found in possession of ammunition.

When suspects evade police, community safety becomes paramount. Police will pursue if the need for immediate apprehension justifies the vehicle pursuit. In this instance, officers determined a pursuit was not the safest option and alternative tactics were used to contain the suspect and avoid a high speed chase, mitigating the risk to our community.
