Prince Albert Police Weekend Update – September 5, 2017

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – Prince Albert Police Service had a busy weekend responding to 345 calls for service and making 59 arrests between Friday evening and Monday morning. The top two calls for service were for intoxicated persons (50) and disturbances (38).

File # 2017-30857: Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle

On Monday September 4, 2017 at 1:50 a.m. Prince Albert Police Service officers were dispatched to 2nd Avenue West and Marquis Road on a Reported Impaired Driver (RID) complaint.

When police arrived they took statements and learned that a driver had gone through the drive-thru and was seen drinking alcohol and striking another vehicle in the drive-thru then driving away.

The vehicle was located by officers on Marquis Road and followed. Once the identify was confirmed the vehicle was pulled over by officers on Southwood Drive and Steele Bay.

Officers approached the vehicle. Located in the vehicle was evidence of alcohol consumption and the driver had appearances of intoxication. The suspect was transported to cells and breathalyzer tests were administered. The suspect exceeded the .08 legal limit in the breathalyzer tests conducted.

The 20-year-old male from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceeding .08. The suspect has since been released to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court October 11, 2017 at 9 a.m.

File # 2017-30531: Hit and Run / Refusal

Patrol members were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) on Friday, September 1, 2017 for a vehicle that had hit a garage on 300 Block 7 Street East.

The vehicle had left the scene prior to officer arrival. At approximately 7:50 p.m. the vehicle was located by officers and emergency lights and sirens were activated pulling over the vehicle on Southwood Drive. The vehicle located had major damages and the female driver had appearances of intoxication and was arrested.

The suspect was brought back to cells and breathalyzer tests were administered which the suspect failed.

The 58-year-old female from Prince Albert is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired, exceeding .08, and having in care, charge or control a motor vehicle that was involved in an accident, (Information #991024468).

The suspect will answer to charges in Prince Albert Provincial Court September 12, 2017.

File # 2017-30539: Impaired Driver / Assault Police Officer

On September 1, 2017 patrol members received reports of a truck driving erratically at 15 Avenue East and 28 Street East. The vehicle was located in a parking lot along 15 Street East by officers at around 8:40 p.m.

The driver was passed out at the wheel and woken by officers. The vehicle smelled heavily of alcohol and the driver had appearances of intoxication.

The suspect was taken to cells. Demands were read for the breathalyzer test and the suspect refused to give a sample. The suspect was escorted back to cell booking area and became combative with officers. Officers managed to gain physical control of the suspect and he was lodged in a cell.

The 28-year-old male from Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan is charged with operating a motor vehicle and unlawfully assaulting a peace officer.

The suspect has since been released from custody to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court September 12 at 1:30 pm.
