8-Year-Old School Girl Struck by Vehicle in Airdrie

Airdrie, Alberta – Airdrie RCMP are encouraging motorists to slow down and ensure crosswalks are clear before continuing to drive.

On September 5, 2017 at approximately 3:15 pm, an 8 year old female was walking home from school with her mother. They were crossing Luxstone Boulevard near Saint Martin De Porres High School when the young female was struck by a small car leaving the school. Thankfully, there were no injuries. The driver of the vehicle was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Police are reminding the public to slow down with kids returning to school and settling into their new routines. Pedestrians, like motorists, should also use caution when using crosswalks. Please ensure that vehicles have stopped and have acknowledged that you are trying to cross prior to stepping onto the street.
