Port Alberni RCMP investigate single vehicle, fatal collision

Port Alberni, BC – On Monday September 11th at 5:46 am, Port Alberni RCMP along with BC Ambulance and Beaver Creek Fire Department responded to a call of a serious, single vehicle crash in the 5600 block of Kitsuksis Rd.

A green 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, a 28 year old man from Port Alberni, was the only occupant and was trapped in the vehicle. He was extricated by the fire department but sadly he’d succumbed to his injuries. The man’s dog was seriously injured and was taken to veterinarian. Police Victim Services are assisting the family at this most difficult time.

The roadway around the crash scene was closed for a few hours while a police Collision Reconstructionist and the coroner conducted their investigations into the cause of the crash. This investigation remains active and so far the cause of the crash has not been determined.

At this time, police are unable to determine when the crash occurred and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the movements of this vehicle prior to the collision. Anyone who may have seen the vehicle driving around earlier in the night is asked to contact the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424.
