RCMP dismantle grow operation southeast of Smoky Lake

Smoky Lake, Alberta – On Sept. 21, 2017 at approximately 12:00 a.m., Smoky Lake RCMP responded to a report of a marihuana grow operation near the North Saskatchewan River southeast of Smoky Lake.

Police located a path leading to secluded area in the woods where 40 marijuana plants and 164 planting plots were located. The scene was secured until a search of the area was authorized. The plants were seized for destruction.

“This grow operation could have continued if not for a tip by the public,” says Sergeant Al Baird, Smoky Lake Detachment Commander, “It is a great result when we can stop any illegal drugs from possibly being sold.”
