Fatal Collision on Alberta Highway 35 North of High Level

High Level, Alberta – At approximately 7:45 a.m. High Level RCMP, High Level Fire Department, EMS the Department of Infrastructure (Highway Patrol based out of Enterprise NT), and the RCMP’s Collision Analyst from Peace River were dispatched to the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision 141 kims north of High Level on Highway 35, in the area of Steen River.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was a collision between a southbound car and an oversized load heading northbound. The cause of the collision is still under investigation however weather does not appear to be a factor. The Highway remained restricted to one lane throughout the day during the investigation however as of 5:45 p.m. has re-opened to two lane traffic.

On arrival it was determined that the 85 year old Female driver of the southbound vehicle, a resident of NT, had unfortunately succumb to her injuries. A 30 year old Female passenger of the same vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to High Level Hospital. Family members and High Level Victim Service’s attended the High Level Hospital to provide support to the victim.

The driver of the northbound tractor trailer and the drivers of the accompanying pilot vehicles were unharmed.

The name of the deceased and injured occupants, along with their residence location, is not being released at the request of the family as they continue to notify their next of kin.

As this investigation is still ongoing, no further information can be provided at this time.
