UPDATE: Wood Buffalo RCMP Investigate Motor Vehicle Driving Off Road Into Water

Fort McMurray, Alberta – On November 7th, 2017, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle driving off of Aostra Road into the water, on the west side of Highway 63, approximately 25 kms north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The occupants in the vehicle were able to exit the vehicle, unharmed. RCMP have confirmed only one vehicle was involved, and the two occupants are safe.

The driver and owner of the vehicle was arrested and charged for impaired driving.

The RCMP want to thank the public for their concern during this incident.

The RCMP would like to remind all motorists to stay off the various bodies of water. The snow is falling, and temperatures are getting colder, however, it is not safe to drive on the lakes, and rivers in the Wood Buffalo region.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will provide communications to the public when it is deemed safe for the opening of the winter ice roads.
