Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged a 28-year-old man with the attempted murder of his parents.
On February 11, 2018 at approximately 2:41 a.m. police responded to a report of an assault at a west side home. Investigation determined that a 72-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman had been asleep in their bedroom when their son entered the room and stabbed them before fleeing the home. The male sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital where he was treated and released. The female was treated on scene by EMS. Police located the couple’s son a short distance away and he was arrested without incident.
The 28-year-old male, who police will not identify in order to protect the identity of the victims, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Following a Judicial Interim Releasing hearing, the accused was remanded in custody and will make his first court appearance on February 14. He was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment prior to appearing in court.
