Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Team charge Chestermere woman with possession of stolen property

Chestermere, Alberta – A Chestermere resident is facing charges of possession of stolen property and failing to comply with an undertaking following the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

On February 15, members of the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Team (SACRT) located a stolen vehicle on Marina Drive in Chestermere. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Calgary on February 12. Officers observed a female who was known to police operating the vehicle and together with Chestermere RCMP, arrested her for possession of stolen property.

Shyana Popplestone (20) of Chestermere has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000 and failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking. At the time of her arrest, Popplestone was released from custody on charges of possession of stolen property and had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for theft.

“The mandate of the newly formed SACRT is to support the RCMP’s crime reduction strategy in Alberta” says Sergeant Brad White,the NCO i/c of the SACRT. “We will focus on identifying repeat offenders, gathering intelligence and conducting enforcement initiatives.”

Popplestone has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear on February 21, 2018 in Strathmore Provincial Court and February 20, 2018 in Calgary Provincial Court.
