Strathmore RCMP Pursuit ends in Arrest – UPDATED

Strathmore, Alberta – Charges have now been sworn against the man arrested yesterday near Balzac.

32-year-old Cole Matthew Peoples, of Calgary has been charged with 14 criminal offences including possession of controlled substance, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, impaired driving, and dangerous driving. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear on April 19 via CCTV in Siksika Provincial Court.

BACKGROUND:

Strathmore, Alberta – Strathmore RCMP have laid charges against a Calgary man following a multi-jurisdictional incident on April 14.

At approximately 10:30 am yesterday, Strathmore RCMP responded to a report of a robbery with a firearm in Wrangler Park, Rocky View County. A man was reported to have brandished a firearm and stole a Ford F-350. The stolen vehicle was seen traveling towards the city of Calgary.

A short time later, another call was received reporting a suspicious vehicle which matched the description of the stolen F-350 at the Mountain View Cemetery. Calgary Police were notified but the vehicle fled and was located by HAWCS helicopter traveling north on Deerfoot Trail at a high rate of speed and in a dangerous manner. The truck then left Calgary City limits and became stuck in a field southwest of Balzac.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, 32-year-old man was taken into custody by members of Calgary Police and RCMP members from Strathmore and Airdrie. Charges are pending for a number of offences including possession of controlled substance, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, impaired driving, and dangerous driving.
