UPDATE: Charges Laid After Saskatoon Home Invasion Suspect Accidentally Shoots Himself

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – One man is facing charges today after an incident in which he was shot in the leg.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., May 14, 2018, Police were dispatched to a residence the 2100 block of 20th Street West for an unknown problem. Upon arrival, officers located a 40 year old male with a gunshot wound to his leg. There were two other men in the house, and the door of the residence appeared to be broken.

Further investigation revealed that the victim was also the suspect; The 40 year old man was found to have accidentally discharged a shotgun while attempting a home invasion, shooting himself in the leg. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released back into Police custody.

Officers also located and seized a shotgun from the back yard of the residence. This incident is not believed to be random in nature.

A Saskatoon man is facing six firearms related charges, Break and Enter, Breach of Undertaking and Breach of Probation.

Saskatoon Police are currently responding to a residence in the 2100 block of 20th Street West.

Officers were initially dispatched for a report of an unknown problem at approximately 3:45 p.m., May 14, 2018, but when they arrived, they located a man in the backyard suffering from a gun shot wound to his leg.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area as traffic restrictions are being put in place in the area of Avenue U South and 20th Street. More information will be released when it is available.
