Lac La Ronge, Saskatchewan – At approximately 1:52 p.m. on June 8th, 2018, the La Ronge RCMP received a call of boaters in distress travelling eastbound on Lac La Ronge. For reasons currently unknown, the vessel carrying three boaters began to sink, leaving the boaters swimming in the water. All those aboard the vessel were wearing Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) at the time of the event.
At 2:10 p.m. the RCMP were informed that the stranded people had been rescued by another boat in the area and were safely aboard their vessel.
The investigation is currently ongoing. The La Ronge RCMP wishes to thank the passerby who aided the boat occupants and would like to remind the general public of the importance of wearing PFDs. With the warmer weather and boating season underway, it is imperative that those partaking in lake activities secure themselves with lifejackets or other life-saving PFDs. Those embarking on the lake for any amount of time are advised to inform a friend/family member of their location and their estimated time of return.
