Boy, 13, charged with First-Degree Murder

Toronto, Ontario – On Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision in the Frankish Avenue and Sheridan Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

– a male cyclist was struck by a vehicle

On Friday, June 15, 2018, at approximately 8 a.m., a 13-year-old boy, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder

He was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Friday, June 15, 2018.

He cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

There is still an outstanding male suspect. He is described as early teens to early 20s, wearing dark clothing.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting further assistance with a Homicide investigation.

On Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision in the Frankish Avenue and Sheridan Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

– a male cyclist was struck by a vehicle

– the three male occupants then exited the vehicle and began assaulting the cyclist who was on the ground

– the three suspects fled the area on foot

– the cyclist was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced

Homicide investigators took carriage of the investigation.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on Sunday, June 10, 2018. The cause of death was determined to be a stab wound to the chest.

The deceased has been identified as Aaron Rankine-Wright, 19, of Toronto.

On Sunday, June 10, 2018, during the morning, a boy, 17, of Toronto, was arrested.

He has been charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

He cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
