Suspicious Packages in 100 Block Of 4th Ave. S, Saskatoon, Perimeter Established – UPDATED

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Saskatoon Police are currently attending to a call of suspicious packages in the 100 block of 4th Avenue North.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., June 20, 2018, SPS received a report that a man was observed placing a brief case in front of a door to a business and a second briefcase in a parking lot nearby.

When Patrol officers arrived, the male suspect was located and taken into custody. Currently, the Canine Unit and the Explosive Disposal Unit are investigating at the scene. A perimeter has been established and we are advising the public and the media to avoid the area if possible. Traffic restrictions are in place with 4th Avenue northbound lanes closed to all traffic, however the southbound lanes remain open.

UPDATE:

Restrictions have been lifted in the 100 block of 4th Avenue South following a report of two suspicious items left near businesses.

Investigation by members of Patrol and the Explosives Disposal and Canine Units, resulted in the arrest of a suspect. One building and a parking lot were evacuated, and traffic restrictions were in place while officers determined that the briefcases involved were not a hazard to public safety.
