Athabasca RCMP investigate shots fired in front of the Grand Union Hotel and Bar

Athabasca, Alberta – On June 22, 2018 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Athabasca RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in front of the Grand Union Hotel and Bar in Athabasca, Alberta.

Witness information states that a group of 4 unknown Native males was approached by another unknown Native male. When the lone male exited a dark coloured SUV vehicle and approached the group of 4, a physical altercation broke out. The lone male was able to break free of the altercation, and someone was overheard stating “I’m going to shoot you”. A moment later, a shot was heard.

The 4 males got into their Green GMC ½ tonne pickup truck and left the area, turning North on Highway 813. It is still unknown if anyone was injured in this incident, as no victims have come forward.

The direction of travel of the suspect male, was not known. The suspect was described as a heavy set Native male wearing glasses, a red shirt and wearing dark clothing. The suspect male was last seen in a dark coloured SUV.
