Barrhead RCMP arrest male after report of driving with balaclava in Lac Ste. Anne County

Barrhead, Alberta – On July 14, 2018 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Barrhead RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Lac Ste. Anne County. The vehicle was believed to be involved in a break and enter that occurred the same morning at a residence where a firearm and property was stolen.

A witness also reported seeing a lone occupant driving a truck wearing a balaclava on Highway 33.

Police located the vehicle believed to be involved on Highway 33 and Township Road 590 and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was approached during the stop but the driver then sped off. A pursuit was initiated and the vehicle came to a stop near Highway 18 and Range Road 30 as it attempted to drive through a ditch. The male suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The truck was previously stolen from the Hamlet of Sangudo, Alberta and two firearms and ammunition were also seized.

Kenny Angus Rain (29) of Duffield, Alberta was charged with 12 Criminal Code offences some of which include:

  • Drive while disqualified
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Disguise with intent to commit an offence
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Mischief under $5000

Additional charges of break and enter (X2) and motor vehicle theft were also laid as a result of the break and enter and theft in Sangudo. Rain also had a warrant for assault causing bodily harm from an incident in Duffield, Alberta on June 19, 2018.

He was remanded into custody and his next court appearance will be in Barrhead Provincial Court on July 24, 2018 in relation to the 12 charges.
